How to Store Your Bike for the Next Motorcycle Season

Depending on where you live in the state, the next Arizona motorcycle season is now. With nice weather year-round, you may be able to ride your motorcycle through many parts of the state without ever having to worry about winterizing or bringing your bike inside.

But if you’re living in an area of Arizona where you need to consider the snow, and you won’t be able to ride all winter, it’s time to start considering how you’re going to store your motorcycle for the season.

Whether you’re living somewhere in Arizona that will require you to winterize your motorcycle for three weeks or several months, here are some things you must do.

  • Get a high grade fuel stabilizer and add it to a full tank of gasoline. Before you put your motorcycle away for the winter make sure to fill the gas tank all the way full and add fuel stabilizer. Stabilizer helps keep the fuel from turning to goop. Never forget to take this step since leaving your fuel unstable can lead to carburetor issues that may not present until you’re already on the road.
  • Consider getting a batter tender. If you leave your motorcycle unattended in the garage for more than a month at a time, it’s important to be ready for the reality that you’ll likely pull it out to find a dead battery. Using a battery tender can help keep your battery alive during the winter. This may be especially important to you if you have an expensive battery, or you’re trying to save money.
  • Remember to start your motorcycle in the garage for a few minutes every couple of weeks. If you have access to your motorcycle during the winter, you can avoid some of the common problems associated with storage just by letting it run for a few minutes once in a while.

Don’t forget, it’s also important to clean your motorcycle before you put it away for the winter. There’s nothing worse than bringing your bike out of storage and having to scrub away hardened sludge.
