Tucson Construction Noise Injuries in the Community

Tucson construction noise injuries are not only reserved for those people working on the construction site, but apparently residents in the surrounding neighborhoods are complaining as well and the problem may be larger than expected.

According to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDOCD), sounds about 85 decibels have the potential to cause hearing loss over time. Reports indicate that most construction equipment operates at 120 decibels or more and for those houses directly next to construction sites, this level may pose a health risk to residents.

New Rules

Multiple residents of neighborhoods throughout Tucson complained about noise levels to the Tucson City Council which has now put restrictions on noise made in neighborhoods. From nightfall to sunrise, all construction zones in the city will now be required to follow the same quiet hours as the rest of the city, where they previously had a noise level exemption.

How to Avoid a Tucson Construction Noise Injury

For construction workers, avoiding a construction noise injury is about wearing the proper ear protection, but for residents, wearing protective ear covers to bed every night or when working in the yard doesn’t make sense. However, there are some other ways that residents and the city can protect themselves from these types of injuries.

Wear some form of ear plugs when the construction is going on. While not as useful as ear covers with decibel protection, they’re less bulky.

Call the police if noise levels are too high or if construction equipment is shaking your house.
Manage your schedule so that you are at home when the construction workers are off work, if possible.
